What is a Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant?
Certified Anesthesiologist Assistants (CAAs) are graduate level trained physician extenders that specialize in the science and practice of anesthesia. All CAAs graduate from a medical school affliated CAHEA-AMA/CAAHEP program and complete a certification process with the NCCAA/NBME national board prior to licensure. CAAs administer anesthesia under the supervision of a physician-anesthesiologist, medically manage patient conditions while under anesthesia, expand access and quality of anesthesia care to all patient populations, and are advocates for patient safety through the anesthesia care team.
